Why is your dogs gut health important?

The microbiome is the collection of trillions of bacteria, viruses and fungi that affect the body from birth and throughout life by controlling the digestion of food, immune system, central nervous system and other bodily processes.

Keeping it healthy is the key to a long, happy life for your pooch!

Immune Function

A strong immune system protects against harmful pathogens and bacteria. A healthy microbiome is required to develop a strong immune response.

Metabolism

The cells in a dog's body change food into energy. That's why they need a quality food that is easy to digest and gentle on their tummy.

Joint Health

Our cold pressed food contains Glucosamine and Chondroitin to aid joint health in both growing dogs and those not so young.

Stress Reduction

The brain and the gut are connected and constantly in communication. A healthy disgestive system will help reduce stress.

Energy Levels

Energy levels naturally fall as our beloved pets advance in years. Nutrient absorption of quality ingredients and nutrients is key to maintaining those levels.

Digestion

Digestive discomfort is all too common in dogs when the wrong foods are being consumed. Gut imbalances usually mean the microbiome needs some care.

FAQ

Yes! We sell samples of our cold pressed food in our online shop.

Getting fussy eaters onto a new food can sometimes be a problem. Here are a few tips to help you along the way.

1. Don’t be bossed by the dog!

2. Let’s assume your dog is happy and healthy? If not check with your vet before changing foods.

3. Transition slowly from the old food to the new food. Dogs often don’t like a change to their routine.

4. Try adding warm water and making the food into a porridge like consistency. Sometimes the novelty of a change in texture can work wonders.

5. Remove the food. If your dog refuses to eat the new food, remove the bowl after 15 minutes and try again several hours later.

6. Exercise – make sure your dog is well exercised, a tired dog is a hungry dog!

7. No table scraps or human meals!

When changing your dog’s food always do so gradually by replacing a little of the current food with Walker & Drake, and increase the proportion over a two week period until Walker & Drake is the only food offered. Remember to always weigh your dog food portions, cold-pressed food is naturally more dense than extruded kibble so it is easy to overfeed your pooch.

Yes, you can feed Walker & Drake to dogs at any life stage, even pups, as long as they have been weaned and your vet is happy for them to eat solid food. Check the feeding guide for daily amounts.
