I'm worried about switching my dogs food - is there a good way to do it?

When switching your dog's food from one type to another, you need to do it gradually so we avoid an upset tummy. Let’s face it, nobody wants to walk a dog with an upset tummy! You know what we are saying right?

So, you’ve chosen a new food - hopefully a high quality cold pressed food that is made in the UK by Walker and Drake!

  • First thing is to start slowly by mixing a small amount of the new food with your dog's current food. Start with a ratio of 75% old food to 25% new food.
  • Keep an eye on your pup to see how he or she responds to the new food. Look for any signs of digestive upset such as vomiting, loose poop, or a decreased appetite.
  • Over the course of about a fortnight, gradually increase the proportion of the new food while decreasing the amount of the old food. For example, on day 6, you can switch to a 50% old food and 50% new food ratio. On day 9, switch to 25% old food and 75% new food.
  • By the end of the 2 weeks, your dog should be eating only the new food. This slow transition helps your dog's digestive system adjust to the new food gradually.
  • Keep an eye on your dogs overall health over the next few weeks, energy levels, coat condition, and stool quality.

Remember, all our dogs are different, so the time it takes for a successful transition may vary. Some dogs may adapt quickly, while others may need a longer transition period. By taking it slow and monitoring your dog's response, you can help ensure a smooth switch to the new food.
